Kerne Bridge to Symonds Yat (West) is quite simply
one of the most scenic journeys one can make on the Wye. Travelling
through a range of historic sites,
observing the countryside, wildlife and scenery - where you'll wish
to have your camera to capture a truly unique view of England.
There are two pubs on route,
- excellent natural stopping points, to enjoy a break or a picnic on
your canoe journey.
- £20.00 per 2 man canoe
- £25.00 per 3 man canoe
- £30.00 per 4 man canoe
- Leaving point, Ross on Wye

Facilites at Kerne Bridge Picnic Area (before you set
off) - Pub/Eating house The
Inn on the Wye is situated through the car park entrance and
200 meters to the left where good food is served and has a lovely
terrace garden. Contact number 01600 890872.
Now
your starting one of the most picturesque stretches of water and countryside
offering so much to take in. The river twists and turns at a leisurely
pace around Coppit Hill. Wild Deer can sometimes be seen foraging for
food by the woods.
Approximately 1 mile on your left you pass a water pumping
station with flood lights set in the walls. Not much to look at but
a signpost your now starting the long right hand bend taking in all
the sites and sounds of the Wye.
Approximately 1.75 miles you come to Lower Lydbrook
can't miss this stop as there's an Island in the center of the river.
You must take the left hand channel around the island. To the left
you'll see the landing point below the steps leading up to the Picnic
Area also The Courtfield Arms Pub /
eating house and well used by canoeists with paddles and buoyancy aids
in tow. is situated up the steps and 200 meters to your left.
The
Forge Hammer pub is situated up the steps across the T junction
approximately 150 meters on your left.
Approximately 0.5 mile on the right bank you pass the
Youth Hostel and church at Welsh Bickmoor with Indian wig wams set
in the grounds, you'll soon paddle under a disused railway bridge now
a footbridge.
Approximately
2 miles on and your passing directly under the 500 high limestone Yat
Rock which is famous as a nesting
point for the Peregrine Falcons which if your in luck you'll see
soaring high above you. This also is the begining of the long loop
which meanders towards the A40 and then back again.
A good signpost is Huntsham Bridge which is constructed
of Green Metal when passing underneath you've 1 mile to paddle to Symonds
Yat West. You may see pleasure cruisers carrying people up and down
the river.
Look
out for Riverside View Camp Site on the right bank and proceed past
the first landing stage.
As you approach the Amusement Park, look out for yellow
sign saying Ross-on-Wye Canoe Hire, on the right hand bank.

at 8:45hrs and 13:30hrs
Times are approximate, and are sometimes
varied during peak periods - whilst every effort will be made to keep
to them please ensure that you are clear as to what your actual meeting
times are, at the time of booking.
Arrive 20 minutes before leaving time to fill in paperwork
and be fitted with Buoyancy aids.
